Washington Area FCU is committed to safeguarding your personal financial information and using it responsibly.  Our Privacy Notice details how we collect, share, and protect your personal information. We also explain your options and provide instructions for updating your privacy elections.

Financial companies choose how they share your personal information. Federal Law gives consumers the right to limit some but not all sharing. Federal law also requires us to tell you how we collect, share, and protect your personal information. Please read this notice carefully to understand what we do.

The types of personal information we collect and share depend on the product or service you have with us. This information can include:

  • Social Security Number and Income Verification
  • Credit History and Credit Scores
  • Account Balances and Payment History

All financial companies need to share members’ personal information to run their everyday business. In the section below, we list the reasons financial companies can share their members’ personal information; the reasons Washington Area FCU chooses to share; and whether you can limit this sharing.

Washington Area FCU shares information for our everyday business purposes.  Information is used to process transactions, maintain your account(s), respond to court orders and legal investigations, or report to credit bureaus.  Information is also shared for our marketing purposes.  This enables us to offer our products and services to you.  Information shared for Credit Union business purposes and marketing cannot be limited.

WAFCU may share information for non-affiliates to market to you.  Sharing to non-affiliates can be limited.

The Credit Union does NOT share your personal information for joint marketing with other financial companies.

We do NOT share personal information about your transactions, experiences, or creditworthiness for our affiliates’ everyday business purposes.

Download our Privacy Notice, detach the mail-in form, and send it to the Credit Union.

You can change your privacy elections at any time by calling 800-830-3078.

Please note:  If you are a new customer, we can begin sharing your information 30 days from the date we provide this notice. When you are no longer our customer, we continue to share your information as described in this notice. However, you can contact us at any time to limit our sharing.

To protect your personal information from unauthorized access and use, we use security measures that comply with federal law. These measures include computer safeguards and secured files and buildings.
Examples of personal information collection include: opening an account, applying for a loan, depositing money, and/or using your credit or debit card.
Federal law gives you the right to limit only:

  • Sharing for affiliates’ everyday business purposes including information about your creditworthiness.
  • Affiliates from using your information to market to you.
  • Sharing for non-affiliates to market to you.

State laws and individual companies may give you additional rights to limit sharing.

Affiliates: companies related by common ownership or control.  They can be financial or non-financial companies.  Washington Area FCU has NO affiliates.

Non-affiliates: companies not related by common ownership or control.  They can be financial or non-financial companies.  Non-affiliates of Washington Area FCU include CUNA Mutual Group and TruStage.

Joint Marketing: a formal agreement between non-affiliated financial companies that together market financial products or services to you.  Washington Area FCU does jointly market.
