Reintroducing the "New to You" Auto Loan Refinance Program -- Posted on Tuesday, September 27 2011

Back by popular demand, WATFCU has a way for you to save money with our "New to You"  auto loan.  Refinance your current auto loan at any other institution and get our new vehicle loan rates, starting as low as 2.75% APR* for a 36-month term!

For a very limited time, WATFCU is offering to refinance the remaining balance of your auto loan at a lower interest rate, saving you money each month.  WATFCU Loan Manager, Greg Vucelik said "with lower rates and longer terms than most used auto loans, the New to You program is an exclusive member benefit we're proud to offer."

"New to You" rates are also available for the purchase of a pre-owned vehicle!

To take advantage of these offers, go on-line at www.watfcu.org or call the office at 724-222-8064 and get pre-approved.  Then come up to Consol Energy Park to find the car that meets your needs.

*Final APR subject to applicant's qualifications, repayment terms, and standard risk-based lending guidelines. The payment for 2.75% for 36 months is $28.98 per $1000 borrowed. Other rates and terms are available. WATFCU is an equal opportunity lender.

Senior Financial Planning -- Posted on Friday, July 22 2011

Financial planning isn't just for younger workers with growing families and retirement dreams.  Financial planning is a life-long process and critical in helping us meet our changing needs as we mature. During the past several years, seniors have experienced many of the same financial worries as the rest of the population.  Investment returns have declined and people are working longer to maintain their lifestyles.

When asked about their financial concerns, seniors' top three responses are reduced income, no financial plan, and medical issues.

Reduced income is a reality for seniors in the current economy.  Many people had much of their retirement "nest egg" wiped out by economic downturns severely reducing the anticipated income from those investments. These individuals now have to rely on Social Security and any pension benefits for a greater part of their monthly income than they had planned.

This situation leads directly to the next concern, no financial plan.  Without understanding your sources and uses of income, it is difficult to know what lifestyle changes (if any) need to be made upon retirement. Develop a spending plan based on your new income, adjusting your priorities if necessary. Review your debts too.  Is it time to pay down or payoff some debt?  Is there equity in your home which could be used to consolidate debts and reduce your monthly payments?  Is a reverse mortgage the right thing to do?  All questions to review with your financial advisor.

Health care is a significant part of many senior's lives.  Modern medicine can extend your healthy years but it can be expensive, with large out-of-pocket co-payments depending on your medical insurance policy coverage.  Long term care may run thousands of dollars a month for a full service facility, and what happens if you run out of cash to cover these costs?  Are your remaining assets at risk?

As a member of WATFCU, you have a variety of financial counseling and advice options available at no cost. Investing and retirement guidance from licensed professionals through Members Financial Services by appointment at our office.   Debt management and budgeting assistance through Greenpath Debt Solutions at www.greenpath.com.  Credit report reviews and housing counseling through ACCEL Members Financial Counseling at www.accelservices.org or by telephone at 1-877-332-2235 six days a week.

Your financial wellness is what WATFCU is all about.  Together with our business partners, our goal is to help you succeed financially by enjoying the benefits of membership in your credit union.  Contact us at 724-222-8064 or visit our website at www.watfcu.org to find out more.

How's Your Financial "Health"? -- Posted on Thursday, June 30 2011

We spend a lot of time, effort, and money on our physical health.  We concern ourselves with proper diet, exercise, and getting enough sleep. All of this keeps us healthy, and helps to relieve our daily stress.

Financial stress, however, affects 1 in 4 Americans. This stress not only affects job performance, but can also affect both your physical and mental health as feelings of anger, depression, and frustration are commonly reported by people in financial distress.

The primary treatment for poor financial health is financial education.  Proper money management is a learned behavior.  If it isn't taught at home or at school, where can one go to get help?

WATFCU has a variety of programs and materials available to help you improve your financial health.  Programs are available covering a range of topics from the basics of creating spending plans, to evaluating loan and credit offers, to investment counseling and retirement planning.  All of these programs are available to you free of charge as an added benefit of your membership.  Our staff of professionals stands ready to assist you in obtaining the financial assistance you require.

If you, your family or co-workers would like improved financial health, contact us at www.watfcu.org or call 724-222-8064 to schedule a "check up", and get started on the road to smarter money management.

Sgt. Nathan P Kennedy Memorial Scholarship Fund -- Posted on Friday, May 21 2010

A scholarship funds has been established at your credit union to honor the memory of Nathan Kennedy, who was killed in action on April 27, 2010, while serving with the US Army in Afghanistan.  Nathan was a combat veteran of the war in Iraq, and had just re-enlisted for another 4 year hitch, when he lost his life in service to his country.

Sgt. Kennedy's family and McGuffey High School, where he graduated in 2004, have established the fund for the benefit of other students' higher educational expenses.
